2nd Module of the Training Program, designed to strengthen translation capabilities in the region, focused on advanced translation tools that can benefit teams working with the EU Acquis

The virtual 2nd Module of the Training Program, designed in collaboration with the DG Translation unit, brought together 40+ participants from the Western Balkans dealing with the translation of EU Aquis. During this Module, participants delved into various aspects of translation tools.

Zoran Zakić, Project Manager' Language Applications', Directorate-General for Translation, European Commission and Markus Foti, Head of Sector' eTranslation and AI language services' guided participants through the use of various translation tools, emphasizing the importance of consistent terminology and sharing valuable tips on Machine Translation.

Zoran Zakić showcased DGT's translation workflow, highlighting the significance of translation tools and the efficient storage and reuse of previous translations, specifically focusing on DGT's CAT tool. Zakić also introduced additional language resources such as Machine Translation (eTranslation) and Termbases (including IATE and other terminology databases) in the context of translation quality assurance and assessment, particularly regarding terminology consistency and how IT support can be beneficial.

Working in tandem with Markus Foti in the second part of the training, Zakić provided an in-depth exploration of Machine Translation and other advanced tools in the field of translation.

This training offered a practical understanding of advanced translation tools that can swiftly and accurately translate documents from one EU language to another, simplifying the process for teams to access and comprehend legal texts in their preferred language.

Nevertheless, it's crucial to remember that advanced translation tools should complement rather than replace the need for legal expertise and human oversight, especially in complex legal matters.
